Personal, Social and Health Education

Personal, Social and Health Education (PSHE) enable children to become healthy, independent and responsible members of society. Our aim at Hambrough Primary School is to encourage our pupils to play a positive role in contributing to the life of the school and the wider community. In so doing, we aim to help develop their sense of self-worth. We teach our pupils how society is organised and governed and ensure that they experience the process of democracy in school. We teach them about rights and responsibilities and they learn to appreciate what it means to be a positive member of a diverse, multicultural society.

Our curriculum allows pupils to develop the following disciplinary skills within the domain of PSHE:

  • Developing confidence, responsibility and making the most of their abilities
  • Preparing to play an active role as citizens
  • Developing a healthy, safe lifestyle
  • Developing good relationships and respecting the difference between people

The following categories of knowledge are used to support pupil retention of information by fostering the development of schemas:

  •  Health and Wellbeing
  •  Relationships
  •  Living in the wider world
